This week's Pimp-Out/Showcase belongs to Jennifer from Clueless Crafter

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I have been crafting for a long time! Apparently since 1969! That’s when I got a copy of Miss Patch’s Learn to Sew by Hand at a book fair in school. Not sure that I made anything out of it, I but I still have that book!

My maternal grandmother taught me how to crochet a chain stitch many moons ago and then I advanced to granny squares. I still have the hook she taught me with and it is my favorite one to use. (As you can tell, I never get rid of anything!)

I have been scrap-booking since about 2000. I still do some sewing and am crocheting more. Lately I like to look at something and decide what else I can do with it before tossing it out in the trash! I love re-purposing items!

Recently, I have discovered 3d paper crafting items and love to create them! I am also hooked on painting, not pictures but things!

The project I created for the Pimp-Out/Showcase hop is an altered canvas. I painted the edges of the canvas with basic acrylic paints. (I only did the edges and a little onto the top so that there wasn’t that bright white showing. This step is optional.) While that dried, I painted a few other things as I was bored (but hey, I got another project done!)

When the paint was dried, I painted modge podge on the entire top and sides of the canvas. I used a simple sponge brush. (and yes while that was drying I modge podged the other project). I think I ended up with a good 2-3 coats on the canvas.
When it was thoroughly dried, I lightly misted the back of my scrap-book paper.  (Someone suggested this hint as it allows the paper to adhere to the canvas a bit better).  Again, I modge podged the paper onto the canvas, allowing time to dry in between coats.

While it was drying, I remembered I had this awesome Claddah paper piecing that I have had for years. I think I got it from when I was active in a yahoo scrap book group. (no Facebook in those days!) I thought it went well so I chose that for the corner piece.

The embellishments at the tops are just jeweled shamrocks that have been in my stash.  I created the banner by modge podging a piece of scrapbook paper and cutting out diamonds. I have huge stash of embroidery floss (are you really surprised by this?) so I braided the colors of the Irish flag and used that to hang the banner that says “Slainte’) It’s an Irish greeting of well wishes!

I hope you like my project. I think my total cost might have been $2.50! I had everything on hand except the canvas. I have been trying to pick them up on sale so I have them when something inspires me! I was happy that I was able to use some products from my unbelievably large stash! Seriously, if you need it, I probably have it!

Thanks to Wanda from Deezy Does It! for spotlighting me!

IT'S GONNA SNOW!!!

                     IT'S GONNA SNOW!!

Well, possibly according to the weather service, but that's another story! Here's mine...

I barely post once a month or two but today I am posting twice in one day!!! The reason for the double post is to tease you! I am being spotlighted on http://deezydoesiteezy.blogspot.com/ in her Pimped Out/Showcase Hop.

While I was working on my project for the showcase, I decided to multi task. I have had these "coaster" tiles for some time and couldn't decide what to do with them. It suddenly came to me when I was working on my other project. Since I had the materials out, I figured I might as well make two things.

This is what I came up with!

Once again I tried to use stuff I had on hand. I am really pleased with the outcome and need to remember where I got these cool tiles to begin with so I can go get more to make more cool projects!

Hope you are all getting excited about St. Patrick's Day!

THANKFULLY CRAFTY

I LOVE Thanksgiving! Sure there is all the cooking, but still it is the best holiday! Actually I have gotten lucky the last few years and my husband and daughter have done most of the cooking for me, My point is, besides the cooking, there really isn't too much work involved. Christmas is insanity. Halloween needs costumes. All those eggs to hide for Easter.Forget it, I'll take Thanksgiving.

I am also a huge fan of the fall, so I really like to decorate. I find it hard to find decorations for Thanksgving so this year i made several of my own! I got a lot of ideas from www.svgcuts.com. I used their cut files for the turkey box,. Pilgrim's hate and Pilgrims. the rosettes are from Art Philosophy for Close to my Heart and a few items I found on Pinterest! I have huge boards for fall and Thanksgiving and i have made or done most of them!

I know my friends up in Canada have celebrated a few weeks ago and ours is still a few days away, but I know I will be busy with work. If you are looking for a last minute decoration, follow me on Pinterest for check out some of these sites!

Have a fabulous and thankfully craft Thanksgiving!

Crafting can be dangerous!

Note to self: crafting can be dangerous!  First off, I am losing sleep due to crafting! I stay up late lurking on Pinterest which only makes me want to get up early so I  can make the projects!  So sleep and I have not been seeing much of each other lately!  It's pretty bad when I wake up in the middle of the night with a craft project!

I find myself second guessing everything I  throw away! Can I repurpose it, can I recreate something with it.. It just never ends! Again, I blame Pinterest!

I decided I would make this with these wonderful little plastic boxes i found at the dollar store. 10/$1! Can't beat it! Wait, yes I can, I can poke holes in the lids so that the twine can just come out as needed!

What better tool to do that with than the Martha Stewart screw punch I got on sale the other day with a 60% off coupon!
My plan was working great, until I slipped, because I got lazy! And this is why I say crafting is dangerous!
Hubs cleaned it out really well with some peroxide, I added some antibiotic and a huge bandage, cuz of the location! Now I look like a boxer who tapes their hands before a fight! I guess that is what I get for trying to be lazy and trying to hurry! Thankfully, it doesn't hurt, it's just annoying!

So please be cautious when crafting!

Jennifer
